The rhetoric of "making life multiplanetary to protect the light of consciousness" uses survivalist/altruistic framing that undercuts the Objectivist case for space. Financial transparency gap: SpaceX is private. We do not know Starship's actual development cost, the breakdown between private capital and government reimbursement, profit margin on NASA contracts, or whether Starship is cash-flow positive. Without this, claims about "private enterprise efficiency" or "public subsidy" are speculation.

Key question: What virtues does Starship require and reward — rationality, productiveness, pride, integrity — and to what degree does it actually exemplify them?

Politics

Capitalism.

Key question: Does Starship's relationship with the state move us toward or away from laissez-faire capitalism?

Aesthetics

Sense of life.

Key question: Does the cultural experience of watching a skyscraper-sized rocket caught by a tower inspire the sense that man is a heroic being — or does it inspire something else?

A. The Economics of Reusability: A Trader Principle Case Study

If Starship achieves full reusability, it would validate a core Objectivist insight: that production — making more with less — is the engine of human flourishing. The numbers matter: what is the actual cost per kilogram to orbit for Starship vs. Falcon 9 vs. SLS? How much of the savings comes from reusability vs. scale? This is the cleanest test case for whether private enterprise genuinely outperforms government space programs.

B. The Contract Structure: Trader or Looter?

The moral status of SpaceX's government revenue depends on contract structure. Fixed-price contracts where SpaceX bears cost overruns are a trader relationship — SpaceX only profits if it delivers value.
